Developer Spotlight

Dean Stewart - Field Engineer

Since 2003, I have been the Rogue Wave Software sales engineer for the UK and Ireland, as well as the Benelux and Nordic countries. During my career, I have served in both consultant and software developer roles. Working on the consultant side has enabled me to experience a more customer-facing role than I had been used to as a developer, providing me a broader perspective on the software business. After graduating from the University of Hertfordshire with a BSc (Hons) in Computer Science, and working for Philip Morris in Berlin, I moved back to the UK and spent two years with Compaq Computers as a consultant/developer. After this, I worked as a programmer for a smart card company, giving me a good understanding of programming for an environment with limited resources.

I enjoy helping customers solve problems and get a buzz from seeing a project that I have been involved with implemented successfully. My main focus at Rogue Wave is on effectively bridging C++ to Web services technology by helping ease the transition and integration of the core business logic contained in companies' C++ applications to Java and .NET Web services.

Martin Sebor - Software Architect

I became interested in computers in high school after I exhausted the capacity of my TI calculator. I had fun discovering all the fascinating things my little Sinclair computer with an 8 bit Zilog Z80 processor could do with just 48K of RAM. As I moved on to bigger and faster computers, I enjoyed learning about new programming languages and the challenges involved in porting my programs from one language to the next. Fortunately, after I graduated with a MA in computer science from the City University of New York, I was able to turn my passion for programming into a professional career.

When I joined Rogue Wave Software in 1999 as the lead engineer on the C++ Standard Library project, I came to fully appreciate the importance of portability and the standards that make portability possible. My enthusiasm for standards directly translates to my role as the company's representative to the ISO/ANSI C++ standardization committee.

Today in my a software architect role, I continue to maintain and enhance the Rogue Wave implementation of the C++ Standard Library, in addition to providing an architectural oversight to the SourcePro line of products. While C and C++ are my languages of choice for most projects, I still enjoy learning other programming languages, new operating systems and hardware architectures, and, in general, the details of how computers and things related work under the hood.

Ravi Palepu - Financial Services Field Architect

Coming from Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, we didn't have much. While kids on the Canadian mainland programmed with 1s and 0s, we just had 0s - but we managed to create spyware on our SuperPets and Commodore 64s. Computers came easily and I was passionate about them, so that's where I focused my attention. As a result, I've been fortunate enough to be involved in a diverse mix of companies and projects . . . from private to public to NGO sectors and in over a dozen countries throughout the world, including a five-year adventure working in Africa at Cyberplex (www.cyberplexafrica.com) and with the Tonga people of Gokwe North. Yes, I can still program.

I now work in New York City with top-tier investment banks and other clients pushing the technical opportunity envelope. As a Field Architect at Rogue Wave Software, I ensure that financial services' technical interests are effectively and proactively addressed and help create solutions. I am currently focused on how SOA technologies, high-performance XML parsing and C++/Java integration can be used to improve developer productivity.

Stephane Raynaud - Senior Field Architect

Throughout the USA, Canada and France, I enjoy conversing with software architects about their current challenges and working with them to achieve their goals. I am also really keen on working in my lab and mixing up third-party solutions with Rogue Wave development tools to create software elixirs, that once drunk, will make software problems go away.
